Abryll's magic class

Post by Abryll Lucien on Sat May 24, 2008 11:10 am

for magic users like me! i'm kind of a science nerd, so my thoughts on magic tend to be pretty practical (no mystical lights or energies, just bending bending physical forces) i'll just start with a post and whoever wants to can jump in

--Abryll sat cross legged, staring intently at a wide basin of water directly in front of him. Today's expirement was to draw fire from water, a task he knew was possible from his previous studies of water's properties. Water, he had learn one day, from intense focus and meditation, was really made of two seperate gasses: partly air, and partly something else. he didn't quite know the name of the other gas just yet, but he did know it could carry a flame; so here he was, trying to draw fire from water.

He had never quite achieved something like this before. He could change waters flow, yes. He could even cause it to boil or even summon rain, if the air was moist enough; but never something that required such sharp focus. He took a deep, long breath, and began to focus on the water in his basin. Soon enough, he could sense the water in his mind as it slowly rippled with the wind.

As his focus grew sharper, he eventually found what he was looking for: the water, to him, was no longer still, for he could now sense the true nature of what was before him. Nothing is truly solid, as he had known now for awhile, and the water before him now hummed as the molecules that made up the water in his basin vibrated against each other, all dancing to the the same frequency. he knew that if he were to increase the speed of this movement, the water would eventually boil, but what he aimed to do today was much more difficult.

He sharpened his focus still more, until he could sense in his mind every single vibrating part of the water before him, and as he stretched his hand, the water began to lift from the basin. He carried the water with his mind untill he held his hand palm up, with the water floating above it like a great shapless mass just above his palm. He and the water were perfectly attuned now, and began to alter the form of the dancing molecules: they no longer collided and hummed, but skirted to avoid each other; and just like that, the water became water vapor, a spherical ball of ghostly mist in his hand. He was halfway there.

Using the energy and momentum as a catalyst, soon the molecules began to grind against themselves, and each solitary molecule, two parts air, one part flammable gas, began to spark as they reacted abrasivly toward eachother. and all at once it ignited. Abryll had to focus very hard to maintain control as the molecules suddenly flew apart, chaotically flying in all directions and colliding, giving off still more heat, the flammable gas, now seperated from the air that makes up water, was quickly being consumed, the air feeding the fire. as long as he held his focus, the newly created fireball in his hand would not go out.

He smiled: expirement successful!--

anyone can feel free to post whatever you want. perhaps someone will dare to challenge my magic with thiers?
